Cold War Kids in The LBC

The Cold War Kids, one of my favorite bands, played a free show at the Busker Festival, August 21, 09. The show took place on 1st and Elm Ave. in Long Beach, CA. The show was packed (why not, it's free) with a bunch of people wearing flannel and riding "fixies." It was really cute. No, I did not wear my flannel, and truth be told, I felt left out, sigh.

Here's what I got:

It's really cool how people think you are associated with the band that you are photographing when you're carrying a big'ol camera; cutzzies for me!

"Who are you shooting for?" "Oh me? Them, The Cold War Kids."

Sequoia in 36hrs.

Last weekend, 2 buddies of mine and I decided to go backpacking in Sequoia for only a short amount of time (We left Friday morning and I had to be at work on Sunday, 10am). I brought the essentials: Camera, 17-55mm 2.8, 2x 8 gig CF cards, batteries, tripod and a hat. Here is what i got:

We ended up doing a 7 mile night hike in the complete dark, well, we had headlamps and little flashlights, but that only lit up about 5 feet in front of us. I wanted to get more photos set up for our night hike, but that would involve me walking into the dark forest, off the trail, and setting up the tripod. I didn't want to do that, plus everyone was super tired and did not want to slow down for me to set up a couple of pictures.

We made it back to the car in about 4hrs and got back to Huntington Bch by 9am. Success!

A Bowl of Kix With A Side Of Creatine

I was out working and waiting for Mia Hamm to show up to coach a girls/boys team (never happened, because she was a no show) and I was watching girls practice goal kicks. Well needless to say, this little girl caught my attention.

I was so amazed at the size of her legs, in fact, I was jealous; I'm a bike rider and legs like that can destroy hills! I wanted them.

It makes me wonder, "What if steroids Were legal?" It would make athletes soooo amazingly awesome! This girl is only in her teens and has some monster of legs. Whatever her parents are feeding her (milked topped with creatine powder), it's looking great!

Pop's Lily Pad

Self-explanatory.

But if you have ever been to my house and noticed a fountain in the front yard, you would be surprised, as much as I was, that something so pretty can grow in such nasty water. The water has nothing but dirty gold-fish swimming in their own poop. Maybe its like fertilizer? I don't know, I'm not a botanist.

Meteor Shower. Well Kind Of.

So Anh and I decided that we wanted to go watch the meteor shower this morning (12am-5am) over in the Inland Empire. Like I said in my last post, "you got to drive at least a couple of hours away." Oh was I right and wrong. The view was nice, but there was still a good amount of city glow coming from the horizon. Oh and not to mention all the other people that got the same idea as us to drive out to the mountain/desert area.

I had envisioned 4-10 meteorites at the same time; filling the sky with wonder-ist lights! We got 1 or maybe 2 back to back, at best. Needless to say, I did not get a photograph of any of the meteors. Instead, I photographed the moon shinning down on power lines and the road. Not according to plan, but I enjoyed myself and I'm sure Anh did too.

Above is a photo of us. Courtesy of my wireless, Chinese, trigger!

Suburban Sprawl

Can't help notice that there isn't a whole lot of nature around Southern California. I mean, we do have the "wet lands" and "parks" but that's it. It's no Oregon or Kentucky and if you want some peace and quiet, you got to drive at least a couple of hours away and still it won't be all that great. Just a little tangent from my initial thought, but slightly related.

I'm going to try and start up a photo-essay about "Modern Nature." It's been done, but I want to give it a try. Here's the first 3 of the set.

Mom's mom

First post belongs to my grandma; she is currently 99 years old. There are disagreements on how old she really is, but this is my blog, so that means she is 99 years old.

This photograph was taken on a visit over in Lexington, Kentucky. It was a 37 hr. trip starting with a red-eye into Cincinnati from LAX. I decided not to use my 37 hrs. for sleeping, but instead, for beer, conversing with family, photography and reminiscing.

The photo below was taken on the airplane (+1 creep) of some lady with the seat that I wanted. Oh well, I made the best of my situation.
